contained house
New 370 m2 / 4000 f2 private residence located in the Boca del Rio region in Veracruz. At the request of the client, the intent was to provide privacy and security by creating a two-story walled compound with minimal exterior fenestration. As a result, the perimeter container walls capture space and form, sunlight, color, and the sky in various configurations throughout the house. Four courtyards were strategically distributed to optimize natural air flow and to control sunlight. Each courtyard was given its own distinct set of characteristics to reflect its location, the adjacent spaces, and the occupants it serves. The internal nature of the house is set up as a private and intimate self-referential gallery with captured views of the interior, the sky, and select vistas of the neighborhood.
